Das US-amerikanische Repräsentantenhaus hat einen Gesetzesentwurf vorlegt, in dem die Definition von “Journalismus” nicht mehr an Medienhäuser gebunden ist, sondern an eine funktionale Besschreibung der Tätigkeit:

the bill now defines “journalism” to focus more on the function of the job: “the gathering, preparing, collecting, photographing, recording, writing, editing, reporting, or publishing of news or information that concerns local, national, or international events or other matters of public interest for dissemination to the public.

Diese Neudefinition hätte wohl zur Folge, dass sich auch Blogger auf den besonderen Status von Journalisten berufen könnte, wenn es etwa um Schutz der Quellen geht. Mehr dazu bei arstechnica. (via the waving cat)
